Former Newcastle United midfielder ,Cheick Tiote has passed on as he couldn’t be revived after collapsing during training on Monday.
The Côte d’Ivoire player was engaged in a training session with the Chinese league two side, Beijing Enterprises, when he collapsed and was quickly rushed to the hospital.
But he couldn’t be revived by the medics who attended to him and was proclaimed dead a few hours later.
His agent, Emanuele Palladino, said “its sad to confirm that my friend and client, Tiote, had passed on after collapsing during a training session with his club in China”.
“We cannot divulge more information at this time and we ask that his family be given sometime to deal with this difficult issue”.
“All we need is your prayers”.
A statement was also issued by Beijing Enterprises confirming the player’s death. It reads:
“At about 6pm on the 5th of June, Cheick Tiote, collapsed and was unconscious during a training session”.
“He was rushed to the hospital, but didn’t make it as he was pronounced dead at 7pm. His family has been informed”.
“Since he joined our club, he has been exceptional and was praised by both his teammates and the coaches”.
“We express our sincere and deepest condolences for Tiote’s sudden death “.
Tiote was a regular feature for the club and had started over 11 games before this unfortunate incident. He also took part in the team’s 4-2 win against Baoding Ronda.
