Paris St-Germain has confirmed the signing of Brazilian striker, Neymar, in a deal that has smashed the world record fee that was paid for Paul Pogba in 2016.
The deal dragged on for a while as La Liga and Barcelona threatened to scuttle the deal and refused the buyout clause that PSG offered. So Neymar decided to pay the fee himself so the move can be made.
This deal means Neymar will earn up to 40 million pounds in a year and 782,000 pounds per week before tax deductions. This takes the total deal to a total of 400 million pounds.
I am moving to an ambitious Club – Neymar
Neymar revealed after the deal was announced that he is decided to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe because of their ambition.
“The ambition of this club is one of the things that made me want to move down here and I also like the passion and energy that comes with it.”
“I am set to take on a new challenge and I will do my best to help the team succeed.
PSG have set up a press conference for Friday where Neymar will be presented to members of the press and fans of the football club before the team’s first game this weekend.
PSG was knocked out of the quarter final of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona after leading the first leg 4-0.
The Spanish football federation stated that the French club was breaking the Financial Fair Play Rule of UEFA and threatened to report the club.
However, PSG stated that their records were clean and were backed up the French League in their bid to sign Neymar.
