Early Sunday morning, on Christmas day a shootout ensued with law enforcement and a suspect who was on the run after murdering an Oregon woman.
The suspect was spotted by Oregon State Police but while trying to apprehend him he led them on a high speed car chase that ensued in a gun battle. According to CBS affiliate KOIN, the suspect was shot and killed while a police officer who sustained critical injuries is battling for his life at a local hospital.
The melee started when a call came in to 911 emergency dispatchers about gunshots being fired at an apartment complex in King City, Oregon. Upon arrival the officers found a dead woman with gunshot wounds.
Washington County sheriff department had asked the public to join them in thoughts and pray for the injured trooper that was shot several times during the deadly encounter.
30-years-old, James Tylka was later identified by police as the suspected killer in the murder of the deceased woman. He was seen leaving the murder scene in his vehicle and pursued by several law agencies; the chase ended in neighboring Sherwood city where he was shot by the officers and later died of the injuries he sustained during the shootout.
Deputies have not released the name of the woman who met her demise during a time when everyone should be enjoying the peaceful Christmas holiday that embodies a time of caring, giving and most of all a time for love and peace.
