In his new album “4:44”, Jay-Z opens up about his personal life and talks about his mother being gay in his track called “Smile.”
Jay-Z has dropped his new album “4:44”, where he gets up close and personal with his fans, talking about his relationship with his wife, Beyonce, his children and mentions that his mother is in a same-sex relationship.
In track called “Smile,” he talks about his mother, saying “Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian. Had to pretend so long that she’s a thespian.”
“Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate. Society shame and the pain was too much to take. Cried tears of joy when you fell in love. Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her.”
He further comments on her struggles in society, saying: “Living in the shadow. Can you imagine what kind of life it is to live? In the shadows people see you as happy and free, because that’s what you want them to see. Living two lives, happy but not free. You live in the shadows for fear of someone hurting your family or someone you love.”
He finishes with some hopeful comments, saying: “The world is changing and they say it’s time to be free,” she adds. “But you live with the fear of just being me. Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be. No harm for them, no harm for me. But life is short, and it’s time to be free. Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed.”
Other Things He Talked About
Jay-Z also apologized to Beyonce for his indiscretions. He said: “You matured faster than me, I wasn’t ready, so I apologize, I seen the innocence leave your eyes, I still mourn this death, I apologize for all the stillborns ’cause I wasn’t present your body wouldn’t accept it.” he said.
