Eminem is the latest high-profile celebrity to wade into the presidential election race. The controversial rapper is about to release his latest single, which is a no-holds barred attack on Donald Trump.
The Grammy Award winning rapper, has unveiled a new track called Campaign Speech, which takes on everyone from Donald Trump to George Zimmerman, who shot a high school student but was then acquitted of murder.
In his latest song, he raps: “Consider me a dangerous man/ But you should be afraid of this dang candidate/ You say Trump don’t kiss a** like a puppet/ ‘Cause he runs his campaign with his own cash for the funding/ And that’s what you wanted? A ****** loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the button/ Who doesn’t have to answer to no one?”
Eminem also criticises Trump supporters. But he saves his real venom for George Zimmerman, who was at the centre of huge controversy when he was acquitted of murder following the fatal shooting four years ago of Trayvon Martin, who was aged just 17.
The singer, whose real name is Marshal Mathers, hasn’t released a record for three years. After releasing a debut album called Infinite in 1996, Eminem had to wait three more years to achieve widespread success with The Real Slim Shady in 1999.
But the 44-year-old has now teased fans by tweeting: “Don’t worry I’m working on an album! Here’s something meanwhile,” before unveiling the controversial new lyrics.
The song has already got the backs up of some of the most divisive figures in America. David Duke, who is the former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and a Louisiana senate candidate, accused Eminem of “poisoning the minds of our youth”.
Strangely, Mr Trump has previously been a big advocate of Eminem. In 2004, when Eminem threw a party to promote his album Encore, Mr Trump made a surprise appearance, saying: “When the Shady Party called and told me there’s going to be a convention, I said it’s got to be a really big one.”
He added “I’m always right. I know a winner when I see one and Donald Trump is telling you right now, Slim Shady is a winner. He’s got brains, he’s got guts and he’s got Donald Trump’s vote!”
However, it looks to be very clear that Mr Trump does not have Eminem’s vote.
