The former United States president and best-selling author have decided to collaborate to write a thriller entitled, “The President is Missing,” which is due to debut in June of 2018.
In a recent statement released on Monday to The Associated Press, both publishers said the book is “a unique amalgam of intrigue, suspense and behind-the-scenes global drama from the highest corridors of power. It will be informed by details that only a president can know.”
Knopf was a longtime publisher for Clinton, and Patterson worked Little and Brown for years.
“The President is Missing” will be the first fiction book written by Clinton, who had a poplar book published in the past entitled “My Life,” which sold millions of copies.
For Patterson, this is the opportunity to collaborate with a friend who is aware, perhaps more than anyone else he could work with, about life as someone living in the US White House.
“Working with President Clinton has been the highlight of my career, and having access to his firsthand experience has uniquely informed the writing of this novel,” said Patterson in a recent statement. “I’m a storyteller, and President Clinton’s insight has allowed us to tell a really interesting one. It’s a rare combination — readers will be drawn to the suspense, of course, but they’ll also be given an inside look into what it’s like to be president.”
“Working on a book about a sitting president — drawing on what I know about the job, life in the White House and the way Washington works — has been a lot of fun,” said Clinton in his own statement. “And working with Jim has been terrific. I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time.”
“This unprecedented collaboration with its compelling mix of insider knowledge and edge-of-the-seat suspense is utterly irresistible,” Susan Sandon, the divisional managing director in Penguin Random House said in a recent statement.
