Nicki Minaj decided to help a few students out this week as she took to Twitter on Saturday evening and offered the cover a few of her fan’s school-related fees or expenses in a genuine back and forth that saw around 30 fans obtaining assistance.
“Show me straight A’s that I can verify w/ur school and I’ll pay it,” wrote Minaj. “Who wants to join THAT contest?!?! Dead serious. Should I set it up?”
Soon, many users started to tweet their requests for financial assistance, such as one person’s need of $1,000 to pay for summer classes, another who required $700 for online classes, and the like.
Minaj responded to then with either a follow-up or simple direct message request for them to provide her with their banking information.
Many of the pleas appealed for under $1,000, however she appeared to agree for $6,000 for one student considering he was able to prove what the money was for.
The fan, named Josh, stated that the money was for his tuition fees, books, food, and accommodation.
After around one hour, the star ended the spending spree, writing: “Ok u guys,” she said. “It’s been fun. Let me make those payments tmrw then see if I have any money left. I’ll do some more in a month or 2.”
About 30 fans had been chosen.
Early in 2017, Chance The Rapper provided $1m of his own money to Chciago schools to help their “arts and enrichment programming”.
When he spoke to reporters about the generous act, he stated: “This isn’t about politics, this isn’t about posturing, this is about taking care of the kids.”
“The cheque that I donated is a call to action,” said the rapper.
“I’m challenging major companies and corporations in Chicago and across the US to donate and take action.”
